Services

For us, the quality of any piece of work lies in its attention to detail. This is why we place greater value on the tangible result than on the seductive vision.

We specialise in optimising planning processes, an approach we have applied over the years to numerous project types: from bespoke private houses to high-rise apartment buildings, from urban infill to major infrastructure projects.

We work within the framework of the German Fee Structure for Architects and Engineers (HOAI), but firmly believe that appropriate project delivery requires a more considered approach.

Architecture

We see every project as a new challenge and address it through an iterative process of analysis, testing and development. This process of continuous review and improvement runs through every stage of our projects, from the initial concept to supervising construction.

Experience has shown that the project team—from clients and users to specialist consultants and site managers—is a central factor in the success of every project.

Drawing on more than ten years of experience in some of the world’s leading architectural practices, we understand the methodology required to reconcile excellent design, strategic planning and effective project communication.

Design

Alongside the need for structured project delivery, craftsmanship is fundamental to our work. Especially in an age of digital planning tools, the pleasure of designing and making with our own hands remains essential to maintaining a direct connection with the product.

High-quality design requires a thorough understanding of our clients’ precise requirements and objectives. Only then can we develop solutions perfectly tailored to the visual and functional needs of their users and to the project’s technical and economic context.

Good design is more than form and function. It is the ability to relate all relevant aspects to one another.

We see our work as a contribution to a liveable environment. The environmental impact of architectural and urban design—in terms of the efficient use of materials and energy, as well as the consumption of resources and land—is therefore always an essential aspect of our planning work.

Management

We consider construction to be the most important phase of any project. For this reason, we aim not merely to accompany it, but to play an active part in all processes that determine the quality of our projects’ execution.

Good project management is based on the ability to organise workflows and to define, coordinate and monitor the interfaces between design, tendering and construction efficiently.

For projects above a certain scale, project management should be established as a separate area of responsibility dedicated to active quality assurance.

BIM

The quality of the product depends on selecting the right tools.

We understand Building Information Modelling not as the use of an available software package, but as the task of finding the right solutions for the specific requirements of our projects.

We therefore do not regard our tools and working methods as fixed parameters, but as something that must be continuously reviewed and improved.

Team

Christina Gresser

Christina Gresser studied interior architecture at the Peter Behrens School in Düsseldorf.

In 1997, she completed an additional master’s degree at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) in London.

Building on the professional experience she gained while studying in Düsseldorf, Christina began her career at Foster + Partners in London, where she was appointed Associate in 2003.

She worked on two projects for Kohn Pedersen Fox before joining Make Architects in London as a partner and returning to Germany in 2009.

Christina founded seg architects together with Philipp Eichstädt in 2010.

Philipp Eichstädt

Philipp Eichstädt studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (HdK) from 1992 to 1999. During this time, he gained professional experience at his father’s architectural practice, Büro Eichstädt, as a research assistant on a university project and as an intern at Foster + Partners in London from 1997 to 1998.

After graduating, Philipp returned to Foster + Partners in London in 1999, where he was appointed Associate in 2001, Associate Partner in 2003 and Partner in 2007.

After ten years, he returned to Germany in 2009, where he founded seg architects together with Christina Gresser.
